Physician wholeness is central to providing quality patient care. Our emphasis on resident wellness and resilience includes behavioral activation woven throughout a curriculum that includes protected didactics, regular wellness afternoons, a biannual retreat, and much more.
For the first 4 weeks of the academic year, we take 2 hours each Wednesday to dedicate to learning and building healthy habits. We have dedicated sessions to group yoga, weight lifting, nutrition, aroma therapy, lose leaf tea, meditation, lunch by classes, cake decorating, hanging with therapy dogs, and much more.
Every 6 weeks, we dedicate one Thursday afternoon to group wellness. In the past this has included city-wide scavenger hunts, picnics, laser tag, movies, Cyclebar, visiting a local pumpkin patch, making gingerbread houses, pumpkin carving, and lots of eating out together.
Twice every academic year, we dedicate a Friday afternoon to a process improvement retreat. We vote on topics to improve in our residency then break into groups to brainstorm and design innovative solutions. There is also food and games. Prior to COVID, Spring RPR was a retreat to Lake Arrowhead, and we resumed this ritual in 2022!
Everyone is excited to get our awesome weekend underway.
While the PGY-3 boys may give off strong bro-vibes at first encounter, they are actually the mean girls of the residency.
The meat and potatoes of RPR is breaking into groups to brainstorm solutions for residency challenges. After this, we played a game where we made up meme subtitles for photos of random residents.
